Capella

sconce

Brass and its shaping served as the primary inspiration for the designer. The form, inspired by the shape of a knight’s shield and designed specifically for STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN in New York, draws from an element traditionally adorning walls and symbolizing both strength and honor, becoming a central theme. Historically, shields were used as both protective and decora- tive objects, often displayed on the walls of castles, homes, and armories. The question arose: how could the beauty of such an object be extracted and enhanced? The addition of a light source emphasizes the visual magic, bringing new life to the shield’s form .

This lamp is a tribute to the designer’s great-grandfather, an ar- chitect of Italian origin. The designer himself regards this work as his greatest craft achievement, with the name “Capella” serving as a homage to his great-grandfather’s legacy.
