When we imagine the distant past, a historical event, the history of our ancestors, images of people different from us - modern people - arise in our minds. We see them seated in archaic clothes using crafted objects, moving between buildings of a bygone era. We assemble our image of the past from old photographs, paintings, antiques, and museum objects. Everything they left behind is a great summary of their being. It testifies to the level of their culture, interests and everyday life. It is a phenomenon that today, from the distance of time that has passed, we can freely value. This life is analyzed in detail by archeologists, history researchers, or ordinary people visiting exhibitions and museums. Here, it is worth asking ourselves what kind of world we create today? What do we surround ourselves with? How do we function? What do the objects we use testify to? Do they define our person? Or maybe they define us?

We asked ourselves these questions long before setting up our company. At that time we also decided to produce unique objects, different from what we have seen so far. I want each object designed by me to fill the recipient with reflection, pride and seriousness. To have a strong impact like music during a concert in a philharmonic hall. I want them to feel that they belong to a strongly developed culture, not only in the world of painting, sculpture and music, but also in the world of design, which has long found its space among other arts called fine arts.

We conduct research and studies concerning hidden dimensions in utilitarian objects. Dimensions which strongly influence us and whose presence we are not always aware of. With this awareness we feel a great responsibility to make every detail of our objects perfect. Both their external form as well as everything that is hidden from view. It turns out that even the invisible parts of an object strongly influence us, especially when we know what they are and with what care they were made. That is why we always produce our objects from the best materials available. From solid blocks of brass, marble or wood. We show the beauty and genuineness of the material. We allow them to age naturally, to become covered with patina. They were the evidence of their use and the passage of time. Or we use elements that already have their hundred year old history. We try to break away from the contemporary principles of production and industrial culture. We willingly reach for already dying out crafts or old metallurgical techniques. We look for a new language in design.

 
 

Jan Garncarek holds a master’s degree in Design from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. He has also studied at the Politecnico di Milano at Michele de Lucchi and Andrea Branzi class. He set up his studio in 2017 after working for Towarzystwo Projektowe, Warsaw based industial design studio. His portfolio includes lamps, tables, chairs and decorative objects. He focuses on precious materials and refined details. Jan is represented by carefully selected galleries in Europe and in the U.S.

All of the products are created in a nonindustrial way using refined materials. Individual approach to every detail guarantees highest quality and uniqness of every piece.
